We have seen an interesting phenomenon that has grown at an ever-increasing rate over the last decade, as reflected in the October 2017 cover story of Harvard Business Review, "The Overcommitted Organization." Overcommitment has led to team burnout. Burnout leads to poorly executed projects and poor performance. A potentially valuable business practice, "Continuous Improvement," has often been applied so poorly, by so many, that it has wreaked havoc over a wide swath of businesses. Coupled with poor commitment choices, overcommitment has led to busyness without productiveness, productiveness without yielding results, and/or results that do not deliver superior returns over the long term.
